As part of activities commemorating the first 100 days in office of the Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Prof. Chituru Orluwene, a lively novelty football match was organized to celebrate the milestone in a unique and engaging way.
The friendly match, played between the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) and the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between professional responsibilities and physical well-being. It also served as a platform to strengthen relationships and foster unity among healthcare professionals.

Staff and supporters from both institutions turned out in large numbers, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement, encouragement, and sportsmanship. The game was both entertaining and competitive, reflecting the energy and commitment that define the workforce of both hospitals.
At the final whistle, UPTH secured a narrow 1–0 victory, drawing cheers from the home supporters and adding a celebratory touch to the occasion. Beyond the scoreline, the event stood out as a symbol of teamwork, resilience, and shared purpose.

The football match not only marked the conclusion of the 100-day celebration but also reinforced Prof. Orluwene’s commitment to promoting staff welfare, wellness, and a collaborative work environment. It underscored the belief that a healthy and united workforce is essential to delivering quality healthcare services.
As UPTH continues to advance under this leadership, initiatives like this reflect a broader vision—one that values not just institutional growth, but also the well-being and cohesion of its people.
