RADIOTHERAPY & CLINICAL ONCOLOGY

The Department of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital was set up in April 2015 as part of the hospital’s determination to provide excellent and reputable oncology services to the people of Rivers State and its environs.  It was noted at that time that the South-South axis had no functional cancer treatment centre and management began concerted efforts to remedy this. The ultimate goal is to establish a radiotherapy treatment facility that will be the pride of the south-south.

Initially starting with walk-in patient’s treatment and review, the department has grown steadily and at this time offers a wide range of Medical Oncology treatment to patients including referrals from peripheral institutions.

It also has a Chemotherapy Day Care centre where a variety of chemotherapy regimens are administered in a comfortable setting. Other treatment modalities including hormonal therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy are also available within the department. We offer as well Palliative and Psycho-Oncology care as well as co-ordinate support group meetings

The Department has a Consultant Clinical Oncologist who also doubles as the Head of the department. Other staff include two oncology nurses, two physicists, one radiographer as well as other support staff.
