A Brief History of SOSDOT

The School of Social Development and Occupational Therapy in the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital was established under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, UPTH–Professor Henry A.A. Ugboma in 2018. The school came into existence as a result of the Hospitals’ desire to provide a learning institute for her students, staff and even prospective students. Before the formation of the school, staff of the hospital were sent to the East (Enugu) for training–for there was none in the entire southern region.
SOSDOT UPTH officially kicked off academic activities in 2019 under the watch of the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee UPTH–Professor Princewill C. Stanley (B.med, MBBS, FWACP, FMCPSY, MNIM). The new school’s orchestration and day to day affairs remain under the capable hands of the SOSDOT champion and Coordinator–Opusunju S. Clifford (B.Sc., M.Sc, FIMC, FICAN, CMC, AHAN).

Also instrumental to the SOSDOT story is the person of the Director of Administration UPTH-Deacon Chief Akie Opuene Heart who in his capacity extended the academic spectrum to the newly established department of Occupational Therapy.
