 UPTH Lifestyle center unveils Food as Medicine at first anniversary

The UPTH Lifestyle Center, the first of it’s kind in public hospital in Nigeria inaugurated a year ago has marked her anniversary with the unveiling of a book “Food as Medicine” and an end of year celebration.

The event held at the premises of the lifestyle center in the hospital attracted senior colleagues in the medical profession, other staff as well as clients/patient of the clinic that had lots of experience to share about the center in handling her special needs with respect to the adoption of healthy living.

Lifestyle medicine attributes clients/ patient health to healthy diet, adequate rest, physical activities that enhance fitness as a lifestyle. Dr O. N. Onya, who had shown passion for lifestyle medicine is a certified lifestyle physician, is the head of the center and the author of the book. Dr. Onya welcomed the dignitaries that graced the occasion and made the presentation of the book with review on the benefits for clients

The honorable commissioner for health Rivers state, Dr. Adaeze Oreh was the special guest, in her goodwill message, she commended the head of the center and the hospital management for the establishment of center. Dr. Oreh expressed optimism that the center will have more anniversaries to celebrate .

The Chief Medical Director , Prof Henry A. Ugboma represented by the CMAC Prof. Datonye Alasia said it was foresight that secured the permission for the inauguration of the center being the first of its kind in any federal hospital in the country. He commended the achievements made so far, and gave assurance of management’s support.

The highlight of the event
featured clients who made dishes using fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and whole grains and served to those present at the event. Also sharing
testimonies on their journey to weight loss to a healthier lifestyle. The event rounded up with a therapy dance called Zumba dance.

Other special guest at the event was the former CMD of the hospital Prof. S.U Etawo, DCMAC Research, grant and innovations, Prof O. B. Braimoh…
