The Management of the hospital led by the Chief Medical Director, professor Henry A.A. Ugboma had the honour of receiving the permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of health (FMOH) .. Adebiyi Folunrusho, who visited the hospital for an on-the-spot assessment of facility and personnel visit.
Permanent secretary briefing the Management team in the hospital’s board room on the intention of his visit, said it’s the desire of the Ministry under his watch to ensure quality service delivery. To that effect, a robust and an automated system will be set up, for feedback mechanism, for patient/client on quality of service, as well as review and appraisal of personnel, such that appointments will be based on performance. He hinted that his visit is intended to get the needed information that will attract the necessary intervention for optimal health service delivery.
Elated with the visit of the permanent Secretary, Professor Ugboma disclosed some of the effort of the Management in ensuring quality service, as the hospital had already stated automated process in delivering health service and is willing to work with the ministry in improving the process holistically.
Rising from the briefing, the Chief Medical Director, leading the team, took the Permanent Secretary through a tour of facilities of the hospital. The wards in Obstetrics and Gynecology, surgery, orthopedic, medicine, urology in the hospital complex were visited. A visit was also made to the Accident and Emergency reception and wards, Radiology annex (which houses, 1.5 Tesla MRI, Fluoroscopy, Mobile and static x-ray machine), the UPTH morgue, siting of the Generator and Incenirator Plants, and then the oxygen plant.
The Permanent Secretary applying due diligence to his visit, at each point of visit express commendation and reservations on areas of concern respectively. He also assured he will follow through the concerns as should have been attended to, from the ministry, hospital services and at management levels .
The FMOH and the hospital is by this visit expected to draw up a compilation of report to drive standard health service , in keeping with best global practice is as will be articulated and followed through by the ministry.
