The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has taken a significant leap forward in healthcare innovation with the implementation of its new digital system called smart clinic. The Hospital in a bid to advance healthcare – improve patient care and enhance operational efficiency collaborated with Primed E-Health, a company whose aim is to digitize health care delivery.
With this system, patients no longer need to wait on long queues just to make an appointment with a doctor, they can book an appointment from the comfort of their homes using only their smartphones. It also increase the speed at which Doctors attend to patients as it skips all the long manual processes.
From the last quarter of 2023 the hospital began the process of conducting training sessions to ensure that all staff members are proficient in using the primed E-health system otherwise known as Smart Clinic. The training program was designed to familiarise the staff with the system’s functionalities and workflow. Following the completion of the staff training, a test run of the smart clinic was initiated in January 23rd at the General Outpatient Department (GOPD) and Accident and Emergency Department (A&E). This provided an opportunity for staff members to provide feedback on the usability of the system.
Based on the successful outcome of the test run, UPTH management proceeded to migrate to the smart clinic on January 31st, 2024. This marked the official launch of the system with all Hospital departments and staff members transitioning from the previous system to the new digital platform.
