The management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching hospital (UPTH), received the zonal commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) ACM Jonathan A. Owoede and officers of the Corp for what they call an advocacy and familiarisation visit.
ACM Jonathan who oversees the command in Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, said he had thought it necessary to reach the management of UPTH for support in order to offer better service to the public. He highlighted the mandate of the Corp from the legislative FRSC Act of 2007 which includes – Rescue operations, recommend remedies, public enlightenment, enforcement of the road traffic laws, design of number plates, licencing etc. The Assistant Corp marshall stated that road safety is a shared responsibility and as such everybody has a role to play, especially the teaching hospital which he says has “the best expertise we need ” in situations where road accident victims shall need medical attention.
