Engineer Atubori Daniel Obianime

Head of Department (HOD)

Engr. A. D. Obianime was born in 1969 at Okrika Island, Okrika Local Government Area, Rivers State to the family of Late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Isaiah Obianime of Okrika. He started his primary school Education at UNA Primary School, Ogoloma, Okrika, Rivers State in 1975 and moved to Holy Trinity Primary School, Aggrey Road, Port Harcourt in 1979 to continue Primary 5.  

He did his First School Leaving Certificate examination in 1982 and went to Okrika Grammar School (OGS) in Okrika Local Government Area. He graduated from okirika Grammar School (OGS) in 1987.

In 1988 he passed his Jamb following his success he went to Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) now Rivers State University (RSU). He studied Electrical Engineer from 1988 to graduate in 1995. In the year 2020 he studied PGD Physics in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, in 2022-2024, He studied MSc in that same University. He is a member of COREN and Society of Biomedical Engineering Nibe

WORKS & SERVICES

This Department started at Hospital road, Port Harcourt township with the name maintenance Department, but became works and services department when we moved to this permanent site in the year 2008. Our responsibility is to handle all maintenance, repairs of machines and equipment in the hospital and all facilities of the hospital.

Brief History of the Department: The Department started at the temporary site of the hospital at Hospital road as general hospital with Mr. Morgan Garricks as Head of Maintenance unit. Then Engr. Joshua A. Ile became Head of maintenance department from inception to October 2009. Engr. Murphy Eppelle from October 2009 to April 2013, Mr. Atoriprikasiki Johnson from May 2013 to June 2023, Head of Units June 2023 to May 2024, Engr. Atubori Obianime June 2024 to date. The department started the formation of different units at the old site with Electrical, Biomedical, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Civil Work and Mechanical unit, later Fire & Safety and Water treatment units were added to it. This units were formed for the smooth running of the Engineering Subspecialties.

Vision Statement

The office of Engineering Sciences will apply Engineering, Technical and Managerial Expertise to provide safe, effective and Economical Facilities and Equipment as needed by University Hospital for patient care, Teaching, Research, and Community Service.

WORKS & SERVICES
This department was established to implement a procedure for systematic maintenance of equipment & infrastructure so as to ensure effective provision of services in the hospital. It covers all the equipment essential for the provision of clinical services, water supply, power generation, and infrastructure.

Functions of the Department

Works & Services Department applies engineering, technical and managerial expertise to provide safe, effective, and economical facilities and equipment as needed by the university hospital for patient care, teaching, research, and community service.

Job requests are usually raised from the reporting department and sent to the works department to effect repairs.

As an example; The Biomedical equipment technicians/engineers are involved in repairs/maintenance and calibrations of medical equipment. More so, of teaching assistants on basic equipment user training, as well as the end users. End users range from nurses, doctors, lab scientists etc. The unit also undertake routine planned preventive maintenance on medical equipment.
