The Urology Unit operates a robust practice utilized by many patients.  The patients who often have co-morbidities offer an array surgical diseases in patients. The lecturers are grounded in general surgery prior to specialization in urology.  Thus, many students flock to the urology unit in their free time even when they have not been posted to Urology. On each routine operation day, the unit lists up to 7 patients for various urological operations.   The existing facilities, both personnel and infrastructure are enough for the unit to function as an autonomous department of the University of Port Harcourt.  In addition, the facilities in UPTH are currently being expanded.  This will further create room for further expansion of urological services and training.
