The Assisted Conception Unit (ACU), Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) have over a decade proved competence in the clinical management of couple/person’s with fertility issues barring them the joy of reproducing offspring.
The clinic having proofs of successful conception through the delivery of life births, have noted that a lot of persons for whom these services is needed are not aware, more so with the fact that these services are offered at a most affordable rate when compared to private and international centers where these services are provided. Hence the publicity and sensitization drive which took place on Wednesday, 26 June 2024.within the hospital community.
Publicity and sensitization was in tandem with spreading hope of fertility which has social and psychological effect. The rally availed the public information about the services available for those facing reproductive challenges.
The rally saw representatives from the Assisted Conception Unit visiting various departments, including the General Outpatient Department (GOPD), Surgery Outpatient Clinic (SOPC), and the Eye Clinic, among others. The team engaged with patients, providing vital information and raising awareness about the advanced Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) which is accessible in our ACU facility in the hospital .
“Assisted reproductive technology is giving hope, building families, and changing lives,” the spokesperson from the unit stated while taking the rally walk. “We want to ensure that everyone facing fertility issues knows that there is support and advanced medical help available right here at our hospital (UPTH).”
The rally emphasized the unit’s commitment to offering hope for parenthood through cutting-edge ART services, by reaching out directly to patients and staff in various departments, the initiative aimed to break the silence surrounding fertility challenges and encourage those affected to seek the necessary medical assistance.
Services offered in the ACU include Invitro fertilization (IVF) treatment and counseling. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Frozen embryo transfer (FET). Oocyte sperm and embryo cryopreservation. Fertility preservation and lots more
The current head of ACU is Dr. Preye Fiebai, and has the wealth of senior consultants like Prof John Ikamalo pioneer head of ACU, Prof Oriji, the present head of O&G department, joined by other clinic staff in adequate care of patients.
