NHIS CLINIC

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) was formerly known as National Health Insurance Scheme.

It is a gateway and first point of call for all staff and NHIA enrollees whose primary health care provider is UPTH as chosen by them under the scheme. It is also a referral center for patients who need secondary and tertiary care to other specialty areas.

Post Graduate Diploma IBLM (Lifestyle Medicine),
M.Sc (Medical Edu.) in view.
Specialty: Consultant Family Physician

STAFFING:

The Staff are made up of clinical and non- clinical which are as follows:

  • Two (2) Consultant Family Physicians
  • Seven (7) Medical Officers
  • One(1) Assistant Director of Administration
  • Thirty One (31) Administrative/Clerical Officers
  • Four (4) Education officers
  • Seventeen (17) Scientific Officers
  • Six (6) Nurses
  • Five (5) Pharmacists
  • Four Medical Record Officers
  • Two (2) Analyst Officers
  • Three (3) Health Assistants

DAILY ACTIVITIES:

The clinic is open to patients from Mondays-Fridays between 8am-5pm, then on weekends and public holidays patients are seen by emergency doctors. However, the administrative offices are always open for documentation.

DAILY ATTENDANCE:

An average of 50 patients was approximately seen daily.

BREAKTHROUGHS AND PROJECTIONS

  1. Training and retraining of NHIA staff on the operational guideline to ensure adequate knowledge of the operations by all staff.
  2. Reorganization of the units into sub units who work as teams to achieve organizational goals. Such sub units include but not limited to
  • Credit/Contract unit who help to ensure proper billing.
  • Education unit who is saddled with responsibilities of enlightening our enrollees on NHIA operation.
  1. Training and retraining of focal persons in the department and unit of the hospital to serve as guide to our patient population.
  2. Sensitization of healthcare professionals in all departments to ensure efficient service delivery.
