Our driving objective at UPTH is to become a world class quartenary hospital, using cutting edge technology and highly developed human resources to render excellent medical care/services to the good people of Rivers State and beyond in-order to markedly reduce the number of patients seeking medical tourism abroad.
May 21st through 26th each year have been set aside to celebrate global lifestyle medicine week. It is a “global celebration and awareness campaign on the six essential lifestyle pillars that optimizes health”.
Internationally certified lifestyle medicine physician and head of the center in UPTH, Dr. Obianma N. Onya and her team rolls out a week long program to create awareness on the essential pillars for optimal health . The six key pillars of lifestyle medicine are listed as “stress management, physical activity, nutrition, quality sleep, avoidance of risky substances, and social connection”.
These scientific pillars are incorporated into patient care in the center in UPTH.
Lifestyle medicine is developing fast and gaining recognition in the medical field as it’s adaptation is “providing effective prevention for chronic conditions including, but not limited to, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and obesity, and when used intensively, often reverses such conditions”.
The week long program is set to feature culinary session on whole foods (plant base meal), health walk,yoga, aerobic and media sensitization award presentation.
