CHILD DENTAL HEALTH

Child Dental Health consists of two specialties – Orthodontics which deals with the management of malocclusion and Paediatric Dentistry which involves the management of all dental problems in children up to the age of 16 years.

A Brief History:

The Department of Child Dental Health started operating as a Department in December 2007 when Dr. A.O. Akadiri (Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon) was appointed as the Head of Department. Following the appointment of Professor C.O. Onyeaso (Professor of Orthodontics / Consultant Orthodontist) in January 2008, he took over as Head of Department in January 2009.

The Department has grown since then with subsequent appointments of Dr. Joy O. Eminue (nee Eigbobo) (Consultant Paediatric Dentist) in January 2010 and Dr. Elfleda A. Aikins (Consultant Orthodontist) in August 2012.
Dr. J.O. Eigbobo was appointed Head of Department in January 2013, subsequently, Dr. Elfleda A. Aikins was appointed Head of Department in February 2016 following the expiration of Dr. Eigbobo’s tenure.

Staff strength:

The department has 1 Professor, 2 other Consultants, 6 Resident Doctors, 2 Dental technologists, and 3 Dental Surgery Technicians. The Consultants and Residents hold specializations ranging from Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry.
