PROF. ORLUWENE VISITS RUMUEKINI, REAFFIRMS UPTH’S BOND WITH HOST COMMUNITIES

In a gesture marked by unity, respect, and shared responsibility, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Prof. Chituru Orluwene, DSSRS, JP, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the long-standing cordial relationship between the hospital and its host communities.

Prof. Orluwene made this pledge during a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Rumuekini, Eze Ambassador Louis Amadi, and his Council of Chiefs. He described the community as an indispensable partner in UPTH’s enduring mission of service to humanity.

The CMD explained that the visit, undertaken alongside members of the hospital’s management team, was not only to formally introduce himself as the new Chief Medical Director but also to listen, connect, and build trust with the people whose land hosts one of Nigeria’s foremost tertiary health institutions.

He assured the leadership and people of Rumuekini that under his stewardship, UPTH would continue to engage its host communities with fairness, respect, and inclusiveness. He emphasized that peace, mutual understanding, and cooperation are critical to the hospital’s ability to deliver quality healthcare and sustain institutional growth.

“UPTH is part of Rumuekini, and Rumuekini is part of UPTH,” Prof. Orluwene stated, noting that a harmonious relationship with host communities remains essential for sustainable healthcare delivery and progress.

Responding on behalf of the traditional ruler, Prof. Abraham Oriji, a member of the Council of Chiefs, warmly received the CMD and his delegation. While presenting gift items, he commended Prof. Orluwene for his humility and foresight in recognizing the traditional institution as a key stakeholder.

He assured the CMD of the community’s unwavering support, cooperation, and prayers, expressing confidence that Prof. Orluwene’s tenure would usher in peace, progress, and strengthened ties between UPTH and its host communities.
