The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has begun a new phase of institutional reforms with the assumption of office of her newly appointed Chief Medical Director, Professor Chituru Orluwene, marking a renewed commitment to professionalism and operational excellence.
On his first day of official resumption, the CMD undertook an inspection of key areas of the hospital as part of efforts to familiarize himself with facilities and assess operational standards. During the inspection, inappropriate objects inconsistent with hospital regulations and the professional use of healthcare spaces was identified within the hospital premises.

Professor Orluwene emphasized that UPTH, as a foremost tertiary healthcare institution, must maintain an environment strictly dedicated to healthcare delivery, training, research, and patient safety, in line with established policies and standards. Consequently, the objects were promptly removed as part of routine administrative action to restore institutional order and ensure compliance with hospital regulations.
This development underscores the new management’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the proper utilization of hospital spaces in line with national and international best practices.
The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital remains steadfast in its mandate to provide quality healthcare services, advance medical education, and promote cutting-edge research for the benefit of the public
