Health care professional recently embarked on a collaborative gesture to to begin mentorship program for diabetic care. The project championed by Endocrinologist , had medical partners holding a specialized training session with caregiver and patients to advance positive outcome in the treatment of diabetes.
The one-day event for “Healthcare Professionals in Diabetes Mentorship Program” held at the hospital’s auditorium had lectures and discussions on the focal topic – “Accelerating Integrated Personalized Diabetes Management (IPDM) to improve patient outcomes: Insights from Real-Local Data” . The charge to participants was to encourage diabetic patients on how to adequately manage their blood sugar level.
In a related lecture titled “Standard Care in Blood” delivered by a consultant endocrinologist Dr. Kariba Akihidue, said diabetes self-monitoring in blood glucose has become necessary to help patients manage their blood and glucose levels as well as practitioners avoid complications arising from diabetes.
She advocated for constant blood sugar level checks by the patients, regular intake of their drugs, and avoiding foods that are not good for their health.
Deputy CMAC Advancement, special duties and partnership, who is a consultant paediatric endocrinologist Prof. Tamunopriye Jaja, said the peculiarities of blood glucose monitoring in pediatrics is important. She explained that type 1 diabetes occurs when there is an autoimmune reaction that destroys the cells in the pancreas that make insulin, necessitating adequate care.
Prof. Jaja gave reasons on the importance of the Integrated Personalized Diabetes Management program because globally many persons with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM ) treated with insulin do not achieve the set goal, making it necessary to educate them on proper monitoring and intake of medication whenever a child or patient is diagnosed with the disease.
The event featured launch of Accu-chek – instant tools for monitoring of glucose of patients by the Roche team, and also availing participants the needed guide for adequate management of diabetes.
