The Immunization Unit, department of Community Medicine has commenced on a Ten (10) days free Monkey Pox Vaccination . The exercise which is planned to last from Thursday 7th August to Wednesday, 20th August 2025 has already administered as much as 100 vaccines from the first day of its launch.
As part of sensitization, Nurses in the Unit had taken the initiative to go round the various departments of the hospital to create awareness, for staff and patients to take advantage of the free vaccination. Also to warn against possible outbreak of Monkey Pox in the country. The vaccination exercise is part of efforts embarked upon by public health physicians in collaboration with primary health program of the Government to ensure that any outbreak is curbed .

Vaccines contain weakened or inactive forms of the disease-causing agent (bacteria, germs , viruses etc), which stimulate the body’s immune system to produce antibodies without causing illness. This process prepares the body to fight off the disease.
This exercise therefore, is a step in the right direction to fight this menace of infection and preserve public health.
It is also worthy of note that the vaccine is safe and should be taken without any fear. The ages fit to take vaccine is from age 18 and above excluding nursing/ breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women.
The vaccination exercise is open to the public, to come and access it and join the fight against public infection…
