
The department of community medicine in keeping with standard practice received a team of assessors from the West Africa college of physicians for her accreditation exercise. This is part of the requirements to ensure adequate training program for her residency program and also to ensure global best practices in community medicine.
The accreditation exercise was held in two days , from Thursday the 21st and Friday 22nd of August 2025.
The accreditation team was led by Prof Hadiza A . Agbo from University of Jos Teaching Hospital, Dr Chinyere Okeke, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu, and Dr Abubakar Musa Abubakar Tafawa Belewa Teaching Hospital Bauchi .

The team on a courtesy visit to management was received by the Chief Medical Director Prof Henry A. A. Ugboma, represented by The Chairman Advisory Committee, Prof Datonye Alasia and other members of the hospital management committee.
In course of their itinerary the team made visit to the different units of the department, and other department of the hospital after which they visited Africa Centre of Excellence Centre for Public Health & Toxicology Research in the University of Port Harcourt, The Primary Health Center at Aluu, where the department carries out most community health services . On the second day of assessment the team visited Model Primary Health care center Bunu in ogoni.
The team returned for a debriefing session with management and the leadership of the department. While briefing management, the WACP team lead, Dr Agbo commended the leadership of the Department led by Dr. Inumaye Ojule and Management of the hospital for their hospitality. She explained that the purpose of the accreditation is to cover the three areas of. The hospital as an Institution,


The man power – Trainer & Trainee /Consultants and Residents , The services – healthcare services .
A thorough assessment was with no exceptions to observations and recommendations by the team. Impressed with office spaces provided for doctors and nurses, a functional center of excellence. They appreciated the different types of simulators they saw at the center.
Recommended that the program for the residents doctors should be well structured especially that of the senior residents to develop themselves.
The need for the departmental Museum to be well equipped. do
Residents to be fully involved in community health activities .
