The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) commenced the 2026 work year with its annual Dedication Service on Monday, 6 January 2026.
The service, organized by the Hospital Chapel and led by the Chaplain, Dr. Harcourt Sominiari, focused on committing the hospital, staff, and patients into Godβs care for the year ahead. Prayers were led by Reverend Matthew Age, while scripture readings were taken by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) and the Director of Administration.

Delivering the sermon, Reverend Dr. Ume Okori emphasized reliance on God, integrity, and effective stress management as key to optimal performance.
In his remarks, the CMD described the service as a moment of personal and collective rededication, urging staff to uphold integrity, unity, and gratitude, while assuring them of managementβs commitment to a productive year.
Later that day, the CMD met with Heads of Clinical Departments to review departmental performance, identify gaps, and conduct a needs assessment aimed at improving service delivery. He reaffirmed his open-door policy, plans to address operational challenges, and the need for professionalism and a positive public image.

The activities marked a strong spiritual and strategic start to 2026 for UPTH.
