In a strategic move to reposition the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) as a leading tertiary health institution, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chituru Orluwene, DSSRS, JP, has inaugurated five special-purpose committees aimed at strengthening systems, processes, and structures for effective service delivery.
Speaking at the inauguration, the CMD charged committee members to immediately commence work through regular meetings, strategic stakeholder engagement, and sustained sensitization to ensure hospital-wide and public buy-in.

The committees inaugurated include:
• Kidney Transplant Resuscitation Committee (Prof. Ekeke)
• Infection Prevention, Control & Outbreak Management Committee (Dr. Mary Alex-Wele)
• Emergency Mass Casualty Response Committee (CMAC)
• Hospital Incinerator Operations & Maintenance Committee (Dr. Valentine Atamah)
• Strategic Plan Review Committee (Prof. Nwauche)
The event was attended by the CMAC, Prof. Richard Echem, Director of Administration Ms. Erebi Wadiri, Deputy CMAC Prof. Olufemi Omitola, and other senior management staff.

This initiative underscores the CMD’s commitment to institutional reform, improved healthcare delivery, and sustainable operational excellence at UPTH.
