The Management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital has commended the collaborative efforts of the Department of Ophthalmology and U.S. Based Surgical Eye Expedition for their free cataract surgery for members of the public. Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee Professor Stanley Princewill gave the commendation when he stood in for the chief Medical Director to receive the three-person Surgical Eye Expedition team from U.S.A. Professor Princewill who described the eye as ‘the dignity of humanity’ expressed gratitude to the U.S team, noting that such collaboration will boost the capacity of local staff involved in the exercise. Earlier, the Head of Department Ophthalmology, Dr. (Mrs) Elizabeth Awoyesuku applauded the S.E.E team for the support toward the free cataract surgery. Dr. Awoyesuku also commended the quality of consumable brought by the U.S team, assuring that the collaboration will bring about excellent service delivery by personnel of the department. After the brief welcoming formalities, the Acting Chairman MAC Professor Stanley accompanied by the expatriates as well as, Senior Personnel later visited eye theatre. Amongst those who witnessed the brief reception were Deputy Chairman MAC Dr. Ocheli Emmanuel, Ag Director of Administration Mr. Akie Hart, Staff as well as some members of the Lions Club, who are collaborating in the humanitarian exercise.
